We love the idea of a Bigfoot-impersonating animal ... but the black bear that came two-leg strolling through New Jersey's Jefferson Township early this week was probably just nursing a front leg injury.
Bears are 'faculative bipeds', meaning that they can walk on two legs for a limited period of time (if you haven't seen pangolins do this, go ... now). Standing gives bears a new vantage point, so it's common for them to adopt the gait to look around or challenge a rival. But upright walking for an extended period of time is usually a sign that something is wrong – for example, this three-legged bear showed very similar behaviour in 2012.
