Dumbo octopus displays a peculiar posture
Invertebrate zoologist Mike Vecchione was stumped when a 'Dumbo' octopus spotted in the Gulf of Mexico displayed some never before seen behavior.
10 years agoSquid specialists from the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and Auckland University of Technology worked tirelessly Monday to dissect a rare colossal squid (Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni). Specimens in such good condition are rarely available to scientists, so the latest example (a female with a brood of eggs) caused a lot of excitement!
The entire procedure was broadcast live on YouTube (don't worry if you missed it, the video is still available for your squid-viewing pleasure). For more information on colossal squid, check out the dissection Twitter feed using hashtags #squidwatch and #sciencelivetepapa.
