New snake species discovered via Instagram photo
You just never know where a new species might turn up.
one year agoA new species discovered in the Mariana Trench has broken the record for the deepest-diving fish!
The discovery was made during a 30-day international expedition aboard Schmidt Ocean Institute's research vessel Falkor (yes, like the luckdragon from The Neverending Story ... we approve!). Falkor's team was stunned when the translucent fish's broad wing-like fins and eel-like tail glided slowly into frame at 8,145 metres (over five miles) below sea level! The new record overtakes its predecessor by almost 500 metres (that was set by a species of snailfish in the Japan Trench found at 7,703 meters).
