Researcher and photographer Jerry Ligouri has witnessed more than his fair share of amazing bird behaviours. His quest to study raptors has taken him across most of North America, and he has authored three books on identifying birds of prey. So when he saw a barn owl flying silently through the air near Farmington Bay Wildlife Management Unit in Utah last December, he immediately started filming.
The owl had caught a vole and was heading off to a safe snacking place, but much to Ligouri's surprise, a northern harrier hawk came barrelling in from behind to try to steal the meal!
