As part of her work as a PhD student at Virginia Tech, Anne Hilborn has spent stretches of time in Tanzania, mostly tracking cheetahs across the Serengeti – though some of the area's other wild inhabitants did occasionally sway her focus. Like these two spotted hyenas and their epically bungled mating attempt. And when you've witnessed a hyena sex fail of such grand proportions, the only thing to do is to storify it.
