Twelve hours trapped in a muddy pit near Kenya's Chyulu Hills National Park had left this elephant exhausted and in distress. The animal was spotted by local farmers, but the steep and slippery clay sides of the pit made rescue attempts challenging. Wildlife conservationists eventually summoned a construction company and a digger was used to 'plough' the elephant's way to freedom. The dramatic rescue was caught on camera by conservation scientist and wildlife photographer Jeremy Goss. Video: Caters
